A basic white rice is 1 part of rice to 1 part water, plus more water for evaporation (generally 1/2 to 3/4 cups). Water is brought to a boil, a tablespoon of oil and rice are added and then boiled for 4 minutes, then the pot is covered and cooked for 20 minutes longer over a minimal flame. If the rice is to be served alone, salt, to taste, should be added at the beginning of the cooking process.
Each cup of dry rice will create approximately 3 cups of cooked rice.
